When Prayers Seemby S. Michael Wilcox

How do we get answers to prayer? And why, sometimes, do we appear not to get answers at all? Author S. Michael Wilcox has been asked numerous questions during his many years of teaching the gospel, but none more often than these. He observes, “I’m convinced all of us have those disappointing, trying times when we wonder if the heavens are closed and our supplications have gone unheard.”

In his new book, When Your Prayers Seem Unanswered (Deseret Book, hardcover, $9.95), Wilcox explains that the Lord often waits until the moment when we have nearly exhausted our resources and our strength to send an answer to our prayers.

Using scriptural references, famous literature, and personal experiences, Wilcox illustrates how the Lord answers the prayers of his children and why our prayers sometimes seem unanswered. For example, he recounts the apostles’ experience rowing across the Sea of Galilee, observing that the Savior did not immediately rescue them. Wilcox applies the experience of the apostles to our own circumstances when the Lord lovingly allows us to learn from our struggles and mistakes.

When Your Prayers Seem Unanswered is available at Deseret Book, deseretbook.com, or wherever LDS books are sold.
