Money or Mission, a new film by John Lyde, now available in LDS bookstores, is an inspirational short-story based on the real-life experience of Las Vegan Patrick Gill.
Gill is a Las Vegas, Nevada resident who wrote an article about his own life experiences of choosing between serving a mission and staying home to work. The article was printed in the October, 2005 Ensign, which is where Lyde found it and got permission to make a movie from it.

Gill’s character is played by Nick Whitaker, who stars as the young Joseph Smith in Joseph Smith: Prophet of the Restoration. Money or Mission also stars Rick Macy (Everwood, Joseph Smith: Prophet of the Restoration, Praise to the Man), Sheryl Lee Wilson (Take a Chance, The Book of Mormon Movie, Volume 1) and up and coming actress Lindsay Bird.
“When I watch the film I forget that it’s about me,” said Gill. “I hope this film will help other people as they realize how important it is the make the right choices – the choices that will lead them to God.”
Director Lyde said he looks forward to the impact this movie could have on anyone preparing to serve a mission.
