Letter From The Editor

Danielle Ellis 080106This issue of Desert Saints Magazine is our fifth anniversary edition. 60 issues! What a wonderful journey these last five years have been.

Coincidentally, this issue focuses on work, as part of our continuing series on the Provident Living points. Sixty issues of a monthly magazine has taken me through three pregnancies (#3 when we started and #5 now), a move, school years, volunteer commitments, children’s activities and more.

Yet just like your life, the show must go on. People often say to me, “I don’t know how you do everything you do.” Neither do I. I just keep working until the work is done. (I haven’t gotten there yet. If any of you have gotten to a point where there’s no more work waiting for you, I’d love to know!)

The good news for all of us is this: work is good for us! Work is good for the soul, it’s good for the mind, it’s good for the body. Work gives us meaning and purpose and gives us an outlet for creativity and energy. It is a means to contribute to the community and a way we support ourselves.

Honest work is nothing less than becoming a more godly person: Our Father in Heaven created worlds without number, organized them, peopled them, and is still working- to bring about the immortality and eternal life of His children! (See Moses 1:39).

No matter your current situation, I hope you will take renewed faith from the great stories in the following pages. Whether your greatest accomplishment of the day is defending a clean corner from busy toddlers or landing the paid job of your dreams, remember that your work is what you make it. Find dignity and worth in your daily turn and no one can take that from you.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’d better get back to work…

All the best,
