Sunstone Dental owners Brad and Greg Welch, DDS, know how important supporting their community is to those living there.
The brothers not only donate their time to the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, they also incorporate their dental practice into many community service efforts throughout the year. Greg serves as the first counselor bishop for the Las Palmas Ward and Brad serves as an advisor to young men at the Silverado Ward.
This fall, the practice has organized a program for Military Family Appreciation month at the Green Valley dental office. Sunstone will serve as a drop-off point for the Southern Nevada region’s Soldiers Angels, a group dedicated to providing aid and comfort to the armed forces and their families.
From the middle of October through the middle of November, community members can drop off any number of items at Sunstone, 1701 N. Green Valley Parkway in the Legacy Business Park. According to Soldiers Angels, the organization is in need of international calling cards, gift certificates, non-perishable foods, books, DVDs, personal care items and other gifts that can be included in care packages. Additionally, gifts for the families with soldiers overseas are also welcome. The organization is also encouraging children to drop off hand-made holiday cards for the soldiers overseas.
“We feel so blessed in our lives that it gives us immense pleasure to be able to help the people in our community and beyond,” said Greg Welch. “After working for so many years to become established, it is so important and fulfilling to be able to give something back to the people that support us.”
According to Greg, Sunstone chose to participate in the holiday donation campaign in order to provide help and reassurance to families who would not be together this holiday season.
“This time of year is especially hard if you are not with your family,” said Brad Welch, a father of seven. “There is such a joy that is held during the holidays and we wanted to be able to provide some of that to these people who are separated from their loved ones.”
Sunstone has carved its name in the community in other ways during the past few years. Following the devastation in the Gulf Coast from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the dentists organized Operation Brite Smile.
Working with fifth graders from a nearby elementary school, they came together to prepare and send oral hygiene kits to survivors of the hurricanes.
The business has also participated in Coats for Kids, where patients and the community were encouraged to drop off jackets and coats for children in December 2005. In February and March 2006, Sunstone participated in Nevada Reads Week where, along with the Gladiator Goddesses, they spearheaded a book donation drive at the practice. At the end of the donation, Sunstone donated more than 300 children’s books to two local organizations.
Brad and Greg are also members of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and are participating in its Give Back a Smile Program to provide rehabilitation and makeovers to survivors of domestic abuse.
Sunstone Dental Care, established in 1998 by brothers Gregory and Bradley Welch, provides state-of-the art cosmetic dentistry services. For more information call 702.837.6555 or go to www.sunstonedental.com.
