Book Review: Zion on the Muddy

Book Review

Written by G. Lynn Bowler

I just completed reading the book, Zion On The Muddy by G. Lynn Bowler. What an inspiring story. The broad story of the original settlement of the Muddy is one of the great colonization stories of Church History in the 19th century. What intrigued me about the book was the telling of the history through the detailed stories of the individual lives who called the history into being. I found myself particularly caught up in the poignant story of the Thomas G. Myers family. As the stories were told of the individual lives, I felt I had a front row seat on the history, not only of Church history in Southern Nevada, but on the very foundation of greater Las Vegas. Do the people of Southern Nevada understand the important role the Latter Day Saints played in the settlement into your region of the country. Do the 21st Century Saints?…”

-Richard G. Oman, Acquisition Director of Art and Historical Artifacts, LDS Church Museum, Salt Lake City, UT.

Nevada Saints will remember a poignant story of the Thomas G. Myers family that Elder Jeffrey R. Holland quoted in Nevada’s recent regional conference. Elder Holland was quoting from Zion on the Muddy, by G. Lynn Bowler, Logandale Nevada Stake Historian.
