A new group of actors and artists have arrived in Cedar City for the Utah Shakespearean Festival’s fall season. Extending through October 27, the fall season features a traditional Shakespearean romance in The Tempest, a contemporary comedy, ‘Art’, by French playwright Yasmina Reza, and the Festival’s first-ever murder mystery, The Mousetrap, by the grand dame of murder mysteries, Agatha Christie. Tickets for the productions can be purchased by calling 800- PLAYTIX or online at www.bard.org.
The Tempest is a tale of magic and mystery, and of eventual wisdom and maturity. The deposed Duke Prospero and his daughter Miranda face monsters and fairies on the magical island they are marooned on. Yet, they gain wisdom and humanity through their struggle in this “brave new world” of intrigue and romance.
‘Art’ is a witty and comic look at the age-old question of what exactly constitutes art. Serge has purchased an expensive modern painting, but he and his friends have varying opinions regarding its artistic value. Emotions rise quickly to the surface as the discussion becomes a canvas for life, insightful, sometimes perplexing, and always funny.
The Mousetrap is the longest running play in the English world (over 50 years and still counting in London). Set in Monkswell Manor where murder lurks around every corner and where everyone is a suspect and a possible victim, this play will keep you guessing and shuddering with delight.
