Help 4 LDS Parents - Strengthening our Families…Protecting our Homes

What is “Help 4 LDS Parents”?

As parents and leaders of children/youth in the Church, we’ve found there are certain issues and topics that should be addressed with all young people in order to give them the proper guidance they need to get along in this world. As parents, we have been commanded “to bring up your children in light and truth” (D&C 93:40). But the world is moving farther and farther away from the standards we value as Latter-day Saints, and we struggle to raise our kids “in the world but not of the world.”

As individuals, we each have our strengths and weaknesses. You may be great at getting your kids to do their homework and maintaining good study habits. Your neighbor may excel in teaching his children to work with their hands. Doctrine and Covenants 46:11-12 states, “For all have not every gift given unto them; for there are many gifts, and to every man is given a gift by the Spirit of God. To some is given one, and to some is given another, that all may be profited thereby.”

Help4LDSParents.com is a website where parents can come to find LDS perspectives on a variety of relevant issues. Our families are facing numerous obstacles, and we need to learn from each other. The current topic we are discussing is: ‘How today’s modern media affects our children.’ You can visit Help4LDSParents.com to request a free parental advisory: “7 Spiritually Devastating Media Mistakes LDS Parents Don’t Know They are Making with Their Teenagers”.

In this article, we examine subjects such as myspace.com, cell phone use, the video game craze, and ways to regulate media influence in your home.

Our next featured topic will be teaching children about finances.

These parental guides are a collection of research, personal experience, quotes from gospel sources, and tips to help the everyday LDS parent. We do not profess to be teaching Church doctrine or to represent the official stance of the Church; we are just a group of concerned parents who want to share ideas with each other. Raising good kids in today’s society is tough, and we can use all the help we can get.

By going to Help4LDSParents.com, you can sign up to receive these articles and other helpful information as well as give your suggestions on topics to be addressed in the future.

Is there a catch? No. The costs associated with running and maintaining our website are borne by our sponsor—Horizon Ranch Outdoor Motivational Program—a program specifically designed to help the young men of the church. Their Summer 2008 Enrollment begins March 31st. You can find a link to their website on Help4LDSParents.com. Because of Horizon’s generous sponsorship, Help4LDSParents.com is completely free to you!

So check it out. The site is just being launched. So we will be adding more features and helpful information as time goes along. Tell your friends and family about us too! The more people who participate, the more we all learn—and the better we become as parents!
