If you know me (and if you don’t, you can for three easy payments), you know that I don’t have any hair on my head. This is by choice: I started shaving my head during the great follicle relocation era. That was when the hair on my head suddenly disappeared, then after much searching, was found on my back. So I did what any sensible guy would do. If I am balding then I might as well be bald. Continue Reading »
I had a motherhood epiphany today. I was nestling my baby down for a nap, watching her relax and unwind into a gentle slumber, her sweet, soft breath on my cheek. The thought came to me that things are better when the children are close. Continue Reading »
I am the mother of six children. When we all go to the grocery store, perfect strangers will often ask me, “Are those ALL your children?” (Well, yes.) “Wow, you must be a very busy mom!” (Well, yes.) “Are you going to have any more?” (Not that it’s any of their business, but, well, yes.) The situation is even better if I only have my three youngest children with me, and then I can say, “Yes, these are all my children, and I left the other half at home.” Continue Reading »
Every day when I came home from school, I could predict with relative accuracy what I’d find Mom doing. It might her monthly bread-baking day, where she’d make thirty loaves of whole wheat to freeze for the month. In that case, I’d hop onto a bar stool and eat a warm slice with melting butter and honey. Continue Reading »

For the past three years it has been Cumorah Academy’s pleasure to provide the Las Vegas valley with a private Christian faith-based school for grades K-8, as well as a 4 year old Jr. Kindergarten program.
When I was eight years old, my mother bought a pair of red sling-back three-inch heels. I remember them distinctly because she never wore high heels, especially red ones. My mother was a martyr. Her selfish side, if she ever had one, died on the cross of labor and delivery in 1973 when I was born, the first of her nine children. My mother wore sensible shoes and often times no shoes at all. She was literally barefoot and pregnant most of my life. She was a short, round mother. Round with child, and round with the weight of carrying the child before. Continue Reading »

Margie Seastrand has always loved the performing arts and educating children. She combined those two pursuits and began building Hollywood Kids Academy in her garage in the fall of 2006. Hollywood Kids Academy now has two locations, Sunrise Mountain and the new North campus which includes a real 200 person theater, with plans for two more locations! The first semester she had 24 students. The next semester there were 84. Today they are approaching 200—testament to not only Margie’s tenacity and the program itself, but to the universal love many young people have for the performing arts.

Question: What is my prescription drug addiction doing to my family and relationship with my spouse?
Debbie: No one is an island. When a member of a family has a drug addiction, everyone in the family is affected. Addiction is a bio-psycho-social problem. Addiction brings with it chaos and co-dependence in the family, where members of the family take on different roles such as: Continue Reading »

Even the gusty winds couldn’t quiet the excited networking chatter of over 100 LDS business men and women at the Old Mormon Fort on April 16 as they met for the first time. An often repeated comment was, “This type of organization has been long overdue–it’s so apparent that it is needed and wanted.”
