When I was eight years old, my mother bought a pair of red sling-back three-inch heels. I remember them distinctly because she never wore high heels, especially red ones. My mother was a martyr. Her selfish side, if she ever had one, died on the cross of labor and delivery in 1973 when I was born, the first of her nine children. My mother wore sensible shoes and often times no shoes at all. She was literally barefoot and pregnant most of my life. She was a short, round mother. Round with child, and round with the weight of carrying the child before.

ballet dancers 508 Margie Seastrand has always loved the performing arts and educating children. She combined those two pursuits and began building Hollywood Kids Academy in her garage in the fall of 2006. Hollywood Kids Academy now has two locations, Sunrise Mountain and the new North campus which includes a real 200 person theater, with plans for two more locations! The first semester she had 24 students. The next semester there were 84. Today they are approaching 200—testament to not only Margie’s tenacity and the program itself, but to the universal love many young people have for the performing arts.
