Imperfect and flawed though our families are, it is the deepest desire of every human heart to have a loving family. Some days it’s easy to love my family, and some days it takes a fervent prayer to love them! But we must love one another. The Lord told us, “I say unto you, be one; and if ye are not one ye are not mine” (D&C 38:27). President James E. Faust added to that, “Unity in the Church will always be a reflection of the unity in our homes.”
In recent years the Church has raised a standard for families through The Family: A Proclamation to the World. The text of the Proclamation gives us an important clue to our future: “We warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets.”
Those calamities, outlined in the scriptures to include famine, earthquakes, seas heaving beyond their bounds, great tempests, wars, commotion, men’s hearts failing them, etc. have been tied by our living prophets to the disintegration of the family.
The world has only accelerated its slide on this issue since 1995, so we can be assured of what is coming and why.
When tribulation comes, we must already be prepared with a house of order; faith to follow the prophet; a spirit of meaningful prayer, and family unity. Once the storms are upon us, the time for preparation is past. We must fortify our families in preparation for these times.
The Lord will bless our every righteous endeavor. Seek Him. He is the perfect elder brother of our Heavenly family. His greatest desire is to gather our earthly families to the safety of Home. Let’s accept His help with gratitude.
All the best,
