This issue of Desert Saints Magazine marks our seventh anniversary of monthly publication. In fact, this setting reminds me of when we put together our first issue. It was an uncertain time, in the immediate aftermath of the September 11th attacks. People were paralyzed with fear. No one seemed to know what to do. Our whole world was turned upside-down.
Our current problems are a different flavor, but of the same magnitude. Once again there is fear and confusion. The world we have known for so long is slipping away, but only a few people seem to understand the magnitude of the trouble we face.
At these times, when we most need peace, the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ shines in brilliant contrast to the darkness all around us. How grateful we should be for its guiding influence! How grateful we can be for the sound counsel of our living prophets! How grateful we can be for our knowledge of the big picture of life: that it is a test, and our faithfulness in trials will determine our blessings in eternity.
God lives, and is at the helm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Whatever trials lie ahead in our personal lives, or for the Church, He knows, and He has descended below them all. Are we greater than He?
Be faithful: follow the living prophet, President Thomas S. Monson; fear not; and stand in Holy Places.
All the best,
