Time for the Temple

Scott family 0209By Judy Scott
Daily there are precious moments in the temple that reach deep inside and touch your heart. A company of over twenty family and friends witnessed just such a moment when the doors of the Sealing Room opened to let one-year-old Jacob Scott enter.

Dressed in a charming little white suit, and followed by two angels dressed in white who had become his new friends in the temple nursery, he confidently walked into the room. Jacob’s eyes quickly scoped out the faces until they focused on his grandma and grandpa, Judy and Dwayne Scott.

Jacob’s eyes lit up and he made a dash for his grandma, flinging himself into her arms. That moment alone was worth coming to the temple. But what was to follow was far more precious. We witnessed this little boy stand by the altar in the center of the room, place his hand reverently on his grandparents’ hands—as if he realized the significance of this moment–and be sealed to them for all eternity.

For Dwayne and Judy Scott, this was a defining moment: they were giving their small grandson the same temple blessings and advantages given to their other children. This had been a matter of considerable prayer, a decision not taken lightly.

Jacob’s mom, the Scotts’ adopted daughter, who had been sealed to them many years earlier, has many challenges in life and would never be able to provide Jacob with the stability and nurturing he needs. Dwayne and Judy, her parents, were the only people she would trust to rear this little man.

Yet Judy had been accepted to a doctoral program, their house was on the market, and they were ready for a new chapter in their lives.
They have two married sons and 6 other grandchildren. Close friends counseled them to consider other options. But to the Scotts, there was only one choice. Jacob was legally adopted on October 23, 2008, and sealed to them on December 30, 2008.

The temple was made for such moments….for the uniting of families in an eternal bond.
