I was endowed in the Provo Temple in 1979 just be-fore I was married to my first husband. I’m sure I heard the workers there invite me to come back often to the temple, but even though I lived twenty-five minutes away, I went there maybe once a month. I sure wish I knew then what I know now about the blessings of frequent temple attendance. I know now that if I’d been going often to the temple then it would have softened the hardships that I endured during that time.
I went through a divorce in the mid 1980’s. A member of my bishopric promised me if I went to the temple as often as I could, the righteous desires of my heart would be met. I took him up on the promise. I wanted to be remarried to a righteous man who would love my children. The nearest temple, 120 miles away, was in Los Angeles, but I went.
I joined an LDS pen pal group, through which I met and married Roland. We were married in November of 1990 in the Washington, DC temple. Going to the temple began to take some sacrifice as we lived four hours away but we went every month. When we moved near Harrisburg, PA, we thought we were in the shadow of the temple being only two hours away. It was becoming a joy to be at the temple, not a burden.
In 2001, the Lord brought us to Las Vegas, and for a year we lived within a mile of the temple, so I began to attend once a week. As one of our children began to have a serious problem, I kept going every single week to the temple and kept my child on the prayer roll.
At tithing settlement four years ago, my bishop told me that I needed to double my temple attendance. Not knowing why, but fully trusting the Lord, I obeyed. Within the same week, my oldest child was arrested. She’s now served almost three years in prison. Her first cell mate, a direct descendent of Oliver Cowdery, had been inactive in the Church for over ten years. I’ve kept all of my children and adopted inmates on the prayer roll.
I’ve seen many miracles happen over the last few years. A few of them include the following:
Unseen powers protected me when I was nearly in a car accident a few years ago. Also, I was protected a year ago when threatened with physical harm.
The Lord has blessed my marriage to Roland when the Enemy earnestly has tried to destroy it.
I’ve been able to bring many of my ancestors to the temple and my family has helped me do their ordinance work.
I’ve seen my oldest daughter’s cell mate go through conversion to the gospel.
Members of her family in Arizona have also been softening their hearts.
I kept a baby’s name on the prayer roll and it went on to 13 temples around
the world. The baby went from being in critical condition to complete recovery.
It was truly a miracle.
My brother, a contractor in Iraq, has had his life spared in spite of heavy shelling in Baghdad. His name is always on our temple prayer roll, along with his family.
I’ve seen a relative go through great inner healing as this person returns to the iron rod.
The temple in every way has been my fortification against the powers of the Destroyer.
I’ve kept coming often to the temple and keep my covenants. For me the temple is a safe haven, a comfort, a place for receiving revelation and for feeling the love of the Savior and of the temple workers. I know beyond any doubt that the temple is the greatest place to be in the world. The Lord will greatly bless anyone who comes faithfully to His House, especially to those who sacrifice to get there.
With all of my heart, I love His holy House.
