My sweetheart and the funniest guy
you know, Dave Ellis.
What a great message our Father in Heaven gives us. Of all the names He could be known by, He chooses simply “Father.” More than any superlative title, He wants us to speak of Him with the term that reminds us of our close relationship to Him.
Every earthly father I know follows this example. I have yet to meet a dad whose children call him ‘Doctor’ or ‘Esquire’ or ‘Bishop’ or ‘Brother Smith, Smith Air Conditioning.’ We are to love, to serve, to be obedient and to honor our fathers. They are to lead, to love, to teach, to provide for and to bless us.
What a blessing righteous men are. Whether we claim them by covenant, or are blessed by them being in extended families, quorums, wards, neighborhoods or influential local government positions, they bring value to life. Their influence is vital.
I was so touched by the story of the Meyers (see page 18). Johann Meyer joined the church alone in South Africa in 1949. Sixty years later, his righteous influence is incalculable. He is a shining example of a man who has been anxiously engaged in the Lord’s work, and has brought to pass much righteousness.
We thank all the righteous men in our community. We love you, and we know that despite all the worldly influences around us, that the preserving power of God’s righteous priesthood holders creates havens of holiness wherever you preside. Happy Father’s Day!
All the best,
