I belong to a popular web site, I can’t say the name here but they put your face on a book that’s online. It’s a place where you can see if your old high school friends look worse than you.
One of the popular things to do on the site is to list 25 things about yourself. I know you already know a lot about me, but I thought I’d add my 25 things list here, amongst a few close friends.
25 THINGS ABOUT ME
1. Contrary to my outward personality, I take some things seriously. Not many though. So if I’m being serious with you, consider yourself special.
2. The greatest sound in the world to me is my wife laughing so hard she’s gulping air. Bonus points if I put her in this state.
3. My extended family is very important to me. I love the get-together times. Especially the major holidays.
4. My mom and dad gave me a great start in life. They loved each other and loved me.
5. My kids always look the same size to me. But when I look at their photos from years past it surprises me how much they’ve grown.
6. My political views have changed deeply over the years. Call me sometime, we’ll argue.
7. Although I never thought I’d hear myself say this, I want to have a small farm one day.
8. I have more hair on my back than on my head. Feel free to compare.
9. I love to cook and even like going to the grocery store.
10. I don’t like musicals because of all the violence. By that I mean the violence I would commit after watching one. People don’t sing songs in unison. That’s a proven fact. If people do sing in unison it’s normally followed up by blowing out candles.
11. I like to take my shoes off at work, that’s why I have slip on shoes.
12. I like public speaking, as long as I can hide behind a podium.
13. I don’t like Jello. I know in this Church that statement might land me in the Bishop’s office. To clarify, I like the flavor but not the consistency. I don’t like hard-boiled eggs for the same reason. I do like wedding/funeral potatoes though, maybe that will keep my membership in check.
14. I really love to watch my kids dance.
15. I read the funny pages over the sports pages. I like to read the article that gives advice on playing Bridge. I read it out loud dramatically to the amusement of my
wife. Frankly I don’t understand that game. I think the rules for Bridge, Craps and tax codes were written by the same guy.
16. I really like peas. I put them in a lot of things, soups, casseroles, macaroni and cheese (yes!) and just plain with some butter and salt.
17. Mork and Mindy, The Muppets and Newhart really influenced my early life. I thought this was how normal people behaved.
18. I like it when it’s dark outside, must be the Alaskan in me. Conversely, there’s nothing nearly as beautiful as a deep blue western sky.
19. I hate it when the media creates mixed names and people use them in everyday speech (Brangelina, Octomom). Although if I were to give myself one, it would be Davesome (Dave + Awesome) or Dookie (Dave + Cookie).
20. My dream job would be where I wear shorts, t-shirt and flip flops. Do you know anyone looking for someone to do this?
21. Some people think I’m being serious when I joke around and therefore think I’m a moron. This criticism is tough but fair.
22. I like to learn little facts about subjects and then bluff my way through the rest of the way. I follow the admonition of George Costanza.
23. I don’t understand why people like NASCAR. Sorry folks, I really don’t.
24. Most movie trailers are better than the actual movie.
25. I really dig pens.
