It seems that everyone who watched this October’s General Conference was deeply moved by Elder Jeffrey Holland’s testimony of the Book of Mormon. The Holy Ghost testified of its truth. His testimony strengthened my resolve yet again to continually learn from the pages of that book, and through it to come ever closer to the Lord Jesus Christ. This process of feasting on the words of the Book of Mormon also helps one to live by continual personal revelation, the only true safety in these last days.
While we celebrate our Savior’s birth this month, we can always come closer to Him through this ancient record, which cost the best blood of the 19th Century to bring to us. As part of learning the sacred truths of the Book of Mormon, this month we have three stories of different opinions of the geographic origins of it.
One claims the Nephites and Jaredites lived in the Mexico/Guatemala area, one from New York, and one from the American “Heartland.” The first examines similarities between the Nephites and the ancient inhabitants in the Mexico/Guatemala area. The second examines DNA evidence linking two separate groups of middle eastern people to the New York and Great Lakes area of North America.
The third looks to the prophecies and promises of the Book of Mormon to determine which nation is its latter-day embodiment.
Hopefully you will have the desire to learn more. The truth is out there, and if we understand the purpose of the book, and apply the constraints provided within the book, we can find glorious insights about the “Promised Land” and what it means to live in that nation.
Desert Saints Magazine wishes you a joyous Christmas season!
