Letter From The Editor

While the Children of Israel were in bondage in Egypt, the Lord instituted the Passover. It was to be an ongoing remembrance among God’s people: “a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the Lord throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance forever” (Exodus 12:14). It was on the night of the Passover that the Children of Israel were delivered from Egypt. A week later they were delivered again at the Red Sea. They were taught by Moses to always remember their deliverance.

The Passover was a type and a shadow of Jesus Christ. On the day that the paschal lambs were chosen for slaughter, Jesus entered Jerusalem, and was chosen for death. He died at the appointed time on the proper day as the other lambs. He was indeed the Lamb of God, slain for the sins of the world.

The Bible Dictionary tells us that the word Atonement means setting “at one” those “who have been estranged, and denotes the reconciliation of man to God.” Sin is the cause of the estrangement, therefore the Atonement corrects the consequences of sin. Through Christ’s Atonement, we can be restored to God. Indeed, He Delivered us all.

We still remember this gift of eternal deliverance with the sacrament each week, one of a select few ordinances kept by all members of the Church of Jesus Christ. But we especially remember this gift each year on the anniversary of the day it was given. And so we hope you enjoy this issue of Desert
Saints Magazine, which focuses on the Atonement of our
Savior Jesus Christ.

All the best,
