Prepare ye, prepare ye for that which is to come, for the Lord is nigh;” declared the Lord in 1831. Recorded in Section 1 of the Doctrine and Covenants, this directive was to the saints, who were just a small group of people in an obscure part of Ohio. The eighteen decades which have come and gone since then have been marked by tremendous growth in the Church. Our scriptures are in the majority of languages on the planet, and temples dot every continent. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worship the True and Living God across the earth. We serve full-time missions and member missions. But we cannot rest. Our work is not done.
The Lord declared his purpose, “knowing the calamity which should come upon the inhabitants of the earth” (D&C 1:17), that those who have the gospel “should proclaim these things unto the world” (v. 18) to establish God’s everlasting covenant among His children on the earth.
“For I am no respecter of persons, and will that all men shall know that the day speedily cometh… when peace shall be taken from the earth, and the devil shall have power over his dominion” (v. 35). “And also the Lord shall have power over his saints, and shall reign in their midst, and shall come down in judgment upon Idumea, or the world” (v.36).
As a loving Father, God wants every child to hear his voice and repent. He wants that day to be great, with many of His precious children gathered to the Savior, rather than destroyed in judgment. Those voices must be ours. The effort to share is ours. The reaching, the teaching, the examples, must come from us. We are the instruments to reach out and bless our brothers and sisters, hence the need for every member to make a concerted effort to share the gospel.
It couldn’t be easier. In addition to the things we’ve done all our lives, we can now multiply our influence through internet resources. I encourage you to visit the new mormon.org and add your own profile. Your testimony and life experience may be just what it takes to introduce someone to the restored gospel. Your Father in Heaven is depending on you. So are His other precious children.
All the best,
