As I was packing, clothes thrown all over my bed, I realized that one year ago I was doing the exact same thing for the first time. Salt Lake City bound! It was certainly a trip of firsts.
It was my first time traveling without my family. The first time leaving over night without my husband. The first time sleeping over in a hotel with the greatest bunch of women I know.
Let’s back up to that day last year…
I went into town to my good friend’s clothing shop. It was the first time I had bought myself ANYTHING in years!
I walked in and quickly my friend hugged me before pushing me into a dressing room. As she threw articles of clothing to me I tried them on and modeled for the entire store. I felt like a princess! It was a little awkward at first, because I wasn’t used to the attention. Really, when was the last time you received applause and were told how beautiful you are? Certainly not after you have made dinner for your family or cleaned the toilets. That’s been my main role for the last 17 years.
With the help of my friend and encouragement from other shoppers I had found my new career outfit. I left my friend’s shop on cloud 9. I threw everything into the car and was off. Next stop, Salt Lake City, Utah!
As I was driving to my destination, I felt butterflies in my tummy. I was nervous, but I had complete faith in my friend and mentor when she told me I would love this new adventure. When I was there I heard things like:
Your reason for doing this business needs to be
bigger than your fear.
When was the last time you actually dreamed?
Was it when you were a small child? God puts
dreams on your heart that He knows you can
Faith First, Family Second, and Career Third.
These are words that I would live by in the year to come. I went with an open mind and an open heart. I
left with a new perspective and an over-flowing
confidence. I decided to get back home and get to work.
I have to admit, our situation was not ideal. My husband had just lost his business that we depended on as a family. I hadn’t been in the work force for 17 years. We didn’t have an income for four months.
We had employee’s that depended on our business for their income to support their families. We had work vehicles that we had to sell for less than we paid for them. We had a work truck that had to go back to the bank. Next was going to be my car. That was the only car that would fit our large family of nine. So I found my “Why.” The reason I needed to do this business was that we needed to keep our car!
I’ve worked my new found business for the past year. I have discovered that when you take Heavenly Father on as a business partner, you realize just how much
He loves you. My sweet husband tells everyone that even if I never made a dime, it would have been worth every bit of it. I have been so blessed. You see, I found out who I am and who my Father in Heaven wants me to become. I loved being home with my family for all those years, but I never knew how to love me.
When you love yourself and have that confidence that comes from it, you can bless everyone around you. My business has been my vehicle, a gift from God, to help me find myself, and to help my 6 girls and 1 boy discover what their potential is.
One year later, I returned to that same clothing shop. I was buying my second Career outfit! I gave my good friend a giant hug. We exchanged a few tears as we both realized just how much our Heavenly Father knows each one of us. One year ago I left on this unknown journey with “hope” in my heart and a prayer to my Father in Heaven. I guess my point in this long story is that you are loved. You have a loving Heavenly Father who knows you. He wants those dreams on your heart to be discovered. He is here for each and every one of us. He knows our needs and our struggles. HE LOVES YOU! You are loved!
