Although there was no smoke, the U.S. Forest Service was fighting a fire. With the dry season rapidly approaching, they got help from more than 250 boy scouts and leaders from the Las Vegas Area Council to reduce the fire danger in the hills and valleys of Mount Charleston.

William H. Stoddard, former regional church spokesman from Southern Nevada and former president of the Las Vegas Stake, has been called to serve as mission president for the Illinois Chicago North Mission. President Stoddard and his wife will serve for three years, beginning in July 2006.

The Main Street Billboard Committee made waves and headlines a few years ago when they successfully lobbied to get sexually explicit billboards removed from around Las Vegas.
They are working now on a new problem. A Nye County brothel wants to begin advertising in other counties and cities, even though prostitution is illegal there. The ACLU has filed suit in their behalf. Main Street’s goal is to prevent the brothel (and any future followers) from this sort of advertising.

The Coalition successfully rallied Nevadans to help pass a state constitutional amendment stating that marriage is between one man and one woman. The coalition is now focused on the Domestic Partnership issue and the Federal Marriage amendment. These two topics are discussed on the NCC website, www.nevadaconcernedcitizens.org.
