The Gift of Glittering Lights Brings Goodwill to Vegas

General

In its 11th year, Glittering Lights at Las Vegas Motor Speedway aims to captivate hearts and provide opportunities for individuals with disabilities and barriers to employment.
The area’s largest drive-through light park is also Goodwill of Southern Nevada’s longest running and largest annual donation event.

With more than 400 animated and sparkling displays creating a 2.5-mile drive-through course, Glittering Lights at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is the largest holiday light park in the area.

In the last two years, Goodwill of Southern Nevada has received donations of gently used goods from more than 5,700 individuals just from this event. These donations of gently used goods are sold in Goodwill’s eight retail stores, and the sale of these goods funds
Goodwill’s services and programs. In 2010, Goodwill of Southern Nevada secured employment for 1,105 individuals with barriers to employment and provided work experience for 451 youth with severe disabilities.

Visitors may receive $2 off admission with a coupon from Goodwill of Southern Nevada by donating gently used items on-site and at all Goodwill of Southern Nevada’s more than 30 donation centers. For a full list of what items Goodwill of Southern Nevada accepts, visit www.sngoodwill.org/accepted-items/.

Formerly known as Gift of Lights, displayed at Sunset Park, the Glittering Lights event has become a beloved holiday tradition for many. Since its move to the Las Vegas Motor
Speedway in 2010, the event was named one of the top 10 holiday events in North America by AOL/MSN and Citysearch.com.

This year, in addition to the lights, Glittering Lights at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will feature Santa’s Village, sponsored by the YMCA. A heated snow castle tent and snow-making machines will create a winter wonderland atmosphere. There are free photo opportunities with Santa and other Christmas characters such as the Nutcracker and Frosty the Snowman.
Proceeds from the holiday concession area will benefit Speedway Children’s Charities and the Boy Scouts.

The park will be open to visitors every night, including Christmas, from November 18 through January 1. Hours of operation are Sunday-Thursday, 6-9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 5:30-10 p.m. The cost is $15 per vehicle, and the first 15,000 vehicles to drive through this season will receive a gift bag with holiday values from the event’s sponsors. This year, 100 percent of the speedway’s proceeds will be donated to Speedway Children’s Charities.
